Then became this :

After that, spent time with friends watching this:

Then ended up like this :

Yes, cats.

Looks like Netanyahu’s secret Moscow visit didn’t go over so well. Russia not only came out today, strongly, against attacks on Iran but even sanctions. I’ve followed power plays for a while now and haven’t seen Russia go this concretely, this far in a stance on Iran. Their Latin American friends reportedly just found a huge gas reserve that could put Venezuela in the top 5 producers in the world. Looks like their power is consolidating nicely, especially after Hugo formally recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia. He got a hundred new tanks for that one. It’ll be interesting to see the response to this one.

Tired eyes, fall.

Almost the end of the week and the going is tough. Tests, studying, and pages due. Came home today and passed out, woke up to a banging on the door. It ended up leading to homemade brownies. In light of that, let me inspire yours a bit.

Gave me a whimsical smile, fell right back in love with the world again

Bittersweet inspiration

Someday I want to drop everything in my day – just stop – and be a part of something as microscopic and meaningful as that moment with the squirrels. I really would love that.

The week wears on

The pileup is starting to take it’s toll, the small joy’s seem more fantastic. Just a good burrito with salsa verde on the side made the day. Then I got sent this video. After the usual bemoaning how much everything sucks, I got a pep talk on inner confidence and achievement. Then I found this post. Another one of those things that makes me stop and think about how much I’m grateful for and what I can do with what I have. Those blind artists made some incredible pieces and turned a (dis)ability into something achieving quite well.

I feel obligated to say something on the eve of the presidential address to Congress. I’ll just say this. His administration has made it abundantly clear that the public option is not a priority. Blue Dogs don’t want it. Republicans all don’t want it. We can’t pay for it. China is unamused with our vast printing of new money so that’s not an option. The approval ratings are slipping daily. I don’t see it working out too well with that in the plan. Politics being compromising in a zero sum game, I see some sort of co-op, regulatory reform bill without new action but rather mild reaction to the currently horrendous practices. I wouldn’t plan on it soon either, with less than 12 percent of the stimulus money being spent (As of the middle of August).

Places I’d love to record

Eerie, chilling, live. (THAT SOUND HE MAKES!)

Let’s get started.

An uneventful day is the best day to start this. It forces me to get into the essence of what “streetlights by night” means to me. House lovers, its that spiritual thing we feel at the first notes of that vocal, the unconcious movement of our feet when that four-to-the-floor starts. Ambient lushes, it’s that void, the sweet abyss at floating in the space of those pads. Post-rock tends to divide, but the feeling is the same. If you’re going for the lighter side of things, it’s Coastal Stations by July Skies – the song you listen to while attached to your pillow in the corner of the bed, the middle of the night, when your other senses are just dulled enough for your ears to pick up the minute nuances of the background vocal. On the heavy edge, it’s Yndi Halda ( a must for those that haven’t) or a crescendo core like Explosions in the Sky’s album, The Earth is not a  Cold Dead Place (listen to at night, at the stars, in the field).

Today was one of those. Not hot enough to be interesting, but not too cold. School, work for tonight, work for tomorrow, work for the weekend, work for 6 months later. Tired, not enough sleep. High points were the darling, pizza for breakfast/lunch, and starting this. Nice moments but not earthshaking.

Which means it’s the perfect day. The perfect day that forces me to discover something that touches at my soul, makes me smile uncontrollably, or rage idealistically.

And with that, let’s get started. Not too much, just my homepage, a few daily bookmarks, and a new find.
